What is a Padparadscha Sapphire – Learn About Padparadscha Gemstones from BitCoin Gems
The narrow definition of a Padparadscha Sapphire is a Sapphire of a delicate pinkish orange color that was mined in Sri Lanka. These gorgeous gemstones are said to have a unique color that combines the beautiful hues of a lotus flower mixed with a sunset. The names Padparadscha is derived from the Sanskrit/Singhalese language with words that signify the lotus flower color. The color of Padparadscha Sapphires was beautifully described in 1995 by Gunaratne and Dissanayake: “The term pathmaraga is a Singhalese term applied to a very special colour variety of corundum, so named after the lotus flower as its colour is sometimes akin to a variety of this flower…. The colour combination produces the rare and beautiful colour of a sunset red at its best as seen across a tropical sky.… The colour of pathmaraga is apparently a combination of yellow, pink and red, with mildly conspicuous flashes of orange.”
